Inside the Making of the FLSK Pro Launch Film — When 3D Product Visualization Meets Comedy
A Flask Disguised as a Rangefinder (Yes, Really)
Every once in a while, a project lands that makes our whole team stop and ask, “Wait… are we actually doing this?”
That was the case with the FLSK Pro, a flask disguised as a Bushnell Golf rangefinder — inspired by Happy Gilmore 2, where everything the guy owned secretly doubled as a flask.
It’s ridiculous. It’s genius. And it was our job to make it look completely real.
Bushnell Golf and CamelBak teamed up to launch the FLSK Pro on Kickstarter, and they needed a 3D product launch film that blurred the line between parody and premium — funny enough to share, believable enough to back.
Turning a Joke Into a Premium Launch Film
The creative brief was simple and hilarious:
“Make it look like a serious Bushnell product film... until it’s not.”
At VM, we specialize in 3D product visualization and launch films that bring products to life before they even exist. For the FLSK Pro, that meant creating a launch film and a suite of photorealistic product renders that could pass as real — down to every lens reflection and brushed metal highlight.
We approached it like a true luxury tech reveal: cinematic lighting, tactile materials, and refined camera motion.
And then… the twist.
That sleek “rangefinder” opens to reveal a hidden flask.
The humor hits because the visuals don’t wink — they commit.
You don’t need a physical product to launch a marketing campaign
Building the FLSK Pro in 3D
The FLSK Pro was designed and animated entirely in 3D, using VM’s end-to-end visualization pipeline:
Cinema 4D for modeling and motion
Redshift for realistic rendering and lighting
We replicated every detail of the Bushnell-inspired design, from glass optics, to stainless steel, to the rubber textures. Then we choreographed the reveal in a fun way.
The result? A Kickstarter launch film that looked like a luxury product ad... until the cap comes off.
Why This Works (and Why Brands Should Pay Attention)
Behind the comedy, this project perfectly illustrates how 3D product launch films can help brands stand out:
Launch before manufacturing.
Everything was built in 3D — no physical prototypes. That allowed Bushnell and CamelBak to launch visually stunning assets early, perfect for crowdfunding and pre-orders.Blur the line between marketing and entertainment.
A strong 3D narrative doesn’t just explain a product — it engages people. The FLSK Pro film worked because it felt real enough to believe but clever enough to share.Maintain total creative control.
With 3D rendering, you can fine-tune every lighting angle, camera move, and surface reflection without the limits of live production.
The Impact
The FLSK Pro launch film became the centerpiece of the Kickstarter campaign — drawing thousands of views and comments debating whether it was real.
For us, it reinforced something we believe at VM:
The best 3D product launch films don’t just inform — they entertain.
Sometimes that means awe. Sometimes it’s inspiration. And sometimes, it’s a well timed joke wrapped in cinematic lighting.
Behind the Scenes: VM’s Creative Process
For creative directors and marketing teams curious about how we approach projects like this, here’s a peek behind the curtain:
Concept & Storyboarding — Define the tone and emotional hook of the launch film.
3D Modeling & Surfacing — Build accurate, photorealistic product assets from your companies CAD.
Cinematic Animation — Craft movement, lighting, and pacing that elevate the design.
Rendering & Post — Apply materials, reflections, and environmental lighting for a realistic finish.
Campaign Integration — Deliver a cohesive set of assets: hero film, still renders, social cutdowns, and teaser loops.
That process has helped VM create launch visuals for well-known brands like CamelBak, Fox Racing, and Bushnell Golf — realism, emotion, and storytelling in every frame.

Why 3D Launch Films Are Changing Product Marketing
3D animation and product visualization aren’t just tools for tech brands anymore — they’re becoming essential for every product launch.
Here’s why:
You can launch products earlier with pre-manufacture visuals.
You get cinematic-quality content for campaigns without massive production costs.
You maintain creative consistency across web, social, and retail channels.
Whether the goal is a serious launch or a tongue-in-cheek parody like the FLSK Pro, 3D storytelling gives brands total creative freedom — and makes products unforgettable.
